About Ryan

Ryan Bretag has spent ten years in education, both as a secondary English educator at Hinckley-Big Rock High School and now as an administrator at Glenbrook North High School.

In his role as Instructional Technology Coordinator, he focuses on systemic and sustainable infusion of technology into instruction and the curriculum as well as the facilitation of professional development for educators.

Ryan has presented and facilitated workshops at local, state, and national levels with a focus on leading, learning and teaching in the 21st Century, social media, blended learning environments, professional development, and learning communities. He holds a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, a graduate certificate in Educational Leadership, and enrolled in a Ed.D. program in Leadership in Curriculum and Instruction.

Ryan is qualitative researcher focused on phenomenology, grounded theory, and ethnography.  His research interests include organizational theory, leadership, professional development and adult learning, learning communities, literacies, social and participatory media, and formal and informal learning spaces. Currently, his dissertation work has been proposed as a cyber autoethnography study in the area of social media, leadership, and learning spaces.
