Painting a SL Scenario: My first Meme

Jeff VanDrimmelen has a great post about Second Life in which he lays out a scenario of its possible uses. This scenario shows the potential that Second Life has for education and it is only going to grow.

As many still try to wrap their brain around Second Life and its educational possibilties, Jeff’s blog entry got me excited to hear what others might paint so I thought I’d find out by starting a Second Life meme as a way of promoting Second Life in education and collaboration.

For this meme, I’m asking three questions plus an optional question so feel free to answer as many or as few as you’d like:

3 Best Educational Places in Second Life
- ISTE Sky Park
- British Literature Classroom
- Capitol Hill (well, it has the potential)

3 People Worth Meeting in Second Life (educational focus)
- Bill Friis
- Elaine Tulip
- Blueman Steele

3 Most Memorable Educational Moments in Second Life
- Informal Debate on NOAA Island about Global Warming
- Teen Tech Week Conference
- A Virtual tour of NASA with lecuture, NASA TV, and discussion

Optional: Paint a scenario, like Jeff’s, of how Second Life can be used in education

  1. Your on, Ryan. :-)

A bit busy at the moment, so gimme a few days and I’ll be onto it.

  2. Best Place:
I am a wimp and don’t get too far, but I agree with ISTE Headquaters being outstanding. I have had several great conversations on the steps in front of the building.

    People Worth Meeting:
Any ISTE SL member, but I have had nice talks with Kittygloom Cassidy, owner of ISTE.

    Moments:
Nothing earth shattering yet, other than the tech itself.

I see web 3.0 as invaluable to the homebound, cyberschooled, and even continuing ed crowd. Any on-line environment could benifit from a “face to face” meeting. Self-directed learning can only take one so far.

Thanks for including me in the conversation. I wish I could contribute more but I am still a rookie.

  3. I was inspired both by your compliment about Capitol Hill, and the challenge (“well, it has the potential”). I discovered the Sunlight Labs APIs and created Senate and House information centers that allow you to chat your state or ZIP Code and get loads of information about your Senator or Representative. See: http://www.sunlightfoundation.com/node/2336 or a new YouTube of it at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQpamR7zKNk

  4. Kiwini:

Thanks for the comment. That is an excellent addition to Capitol Hill and I’m glad you constantly looking to add to the area.

It is a great spot that I hope will only continue to grow and one that many educators will find very valuable!
