Google+ Adds Communities

Google+ Adds Communities

I’ve long been a fan of Google+ and have argued it has tremendous potential in education. Given Google continues to expand the features and has opened for K-12 Google Apps, it is a good time to take a look and consider the possibilities.

This time, it has added communities and what I’d consider another layer that continues to make Google+ a viable next generation learning management system.

Features of a Google+ Community

  • discussion board feel with Google+ posting ease and multimedia
  • private or public
  • multiple categories for organization
  • event-based additions
  • embedded Hangouts

Creating a Google+ Community

  1. login to Google+
  2. click on “community”
  3. choose Private or Public
  4. name your community and provide more details
  5. setup categories
  6. invite people or circles
